Is this a druid cheat?

Last night I thought of another idea along similar lines with venom.
What if I were to cover my body ( or arms/hands ) with some type of contact plant poison, basically I,m trying to think of way's of stopping some one from grappling me ( the DM's favorite against spell casters).

Just get some padded or leather armor and get some armor spikes.

Or, the next time someone grapples your druid, Wildshape into something big and nasty. Not only will your size add to the grapple roll, but you can use light weapons (Natural weaponry) in a grapple.

Or you could try the thornskin spell from OA. Thorns appear on your skin, and you cause 1d6 points of damage with an unarmed attack, or (if a monk) your damage die increases by one step. Anything that hits you with a natural weapon or grapples you also takes 1d4 points of damage.

I'm wondering if I should borrow kreynolds' pimp hat.

Hey Hong, I thought you said these boards were for the "quich and focaccia set ( or as I call them egg and bacon pie, and cheese on flat roll's) ;)

The idea as it stands seems more than a little ridiculous. I belive it also violates the intent, if not the letter, of the Druid. They would not abuse animals in such a fashion, and I belive that this would also cause Animal Companions to abandon the Druid. Since the ability functions as the spell Animal Friendship, and the spell requires you to desire true friend ship, exploiting them would end the effect.

It would make using posions a viable route, and having a couple of small vipers as companions to harvest said posion would not be a problem. Just feed them lots of mice. :)

This thread did give me two neat ideas...

A variation of The Worm That Walks, from the ELH, save with vipers.

The Helm Of The Meadusa. A light golden helm, possibly meant for a woman, with coiling snakes wrapping about it, each with emerald eyes and ivory fangs. Upon comand, these snakes spring to life, and may be used in combat. Once per day it allows the user to cast Posion, as the spell.

Well, as I also said, not that there's anything wrong with quiche and foccaccia.

Hong "goes well with a VB, so I am told" Ooi

To what end? Snakes don't commonly strike through cloth. You'd get a druid that gets lots of snake bites. Immune to venom or not, those still do physical damage...

Tiny vipers do not do physical damage. Their sole attack form is poison. (Check the MM).

Scorpions are vermin, not animals, so, no, you cannot throw several scorpions at an enemy using animal friendship to control them.

There is nothing wrong with a druid having some viper snakes as pets since they are animals so long as you observe the guidelines and rules for animal friendship.

Some things to remember:

While on your person, these snakes aren't actually part of you so they don't get the benefit of any personal range spell effects nor are they affected by touch range spells that target you. So, for example, if you cast endure elements (fire) on yourself and get nailed by a fireball, the snakes do not benefit from your fire resistance unless you cast it on them too. Another example: tree stride lets you move from tree to tree, but your pet snakes get left behind.

They don't become part of you when you use wild shape. So if you turned into an eagle and tried to fly away, you would leave your snakes behind. Putting them in a sack doesn't help; the snakes do not transform like the sack does; snakes are animal companions, not equipment.

They have no reach so they don't get an attack of opportunity until your opponent attempts to grapple you and not before then.
