Is this sword Overpriced (from A&EG)?

A +1 version would cost 56,310 I guess. How do you feel about that price? Thanks!

Sword of Graceful Strikes: This +3 short sword
allows graceful wielders to deal extra damage based
on agility, not brute force. All melee attacks made
with the sword of graceful strikes add the wielder’s
Dexterity modifier to damage rather than his
Strength modifier. Furthermore, an unsuccessful
disarm attempt made with the sword of graceful
strikes does not allow the target a chance to disarm
the wielder.
Caster Level: 9th; Prerequisites: Craft Magic Arms and
Armor, Tenser’s transformation; Market Price: 72,310 gp;
Cost to Create: 36,310 gp + 2,880 XP.

Hmm, 18,000 for +3.

10,000-25,000 for emulating a feat-like ability(dex to damage), and I would go with 25,000 as Dex is already the most useful stat in the game

The ability to not be disarmed if you try (note it says nothing about when someone tries to disarm you) Looks like a cost of about 10,000, which might be a bit high

Overall, I would say it is probably a bit overpriced. Maybe 50,000 or so?

I am thinking about just letting him add that Dex to Damage ability at +3 bonus cost. Do you think that is underpriced for what it gives?

I wouldn't. Even if he has a +6 dex mod, he's giving up +3 to attack and damage.

Well, it is very expensive, but assuming weapon finesse you are adding dex "to hit" and dex "to damage" which allows you to use str as a dump stat and pump up dex as much as possible.

Hardly optimal, but...twinked out... maybe.

Well, it prices out to an effective +3 bonus.

It seems like a niche thing; it *replaces* Str to damage, not to hit, and doesn't add to it.

I suppose the swashbuckler or rogue might like it, but they'd be sacrificing a lot to get it, so they deserve to get some oomph for the cost.

It's overpriced. First, I would make it a +1 short sword, not +3 (if he wants to add more pluses to it, the formula is simple). Next, I would price the other abilities at a +1 or +2 bonus. The "no disarm" is virtually free, as a gauntlet lock will replicate that ability. So really it's just dex to damage, which is nice, but not a lot more effective than a simple +1d6 damage from an energy weapon. I'd probably lean +1 bonus but +2 is also reasonable.

I wouldn't allow it at all. Considering a character that's created at high levels and who can and will afford it, I have this strange vision of a doublewielding dude with str 10 and dex 30.

Don't forget, this sword grants a bonus that's nearly nowhere else available. For a reason.

It looks about right. It allows you to "dump" Str, but that has repercussions as to disarming, grappling, carrying capacity, and so forth, and makes you dependent on an item. At caster level 9 (!) it's extremely vulnerable to being suppressed via dispel magic.

I think under 3.5 it would need to be caster level 12 for the base model, right?
