It's also what they're saying in the August Previews.

But why do you wish it was wrong? How many people on this board own Complete Arcane? I'd venture the majority of them, and more than own any one of the others.
When any company does something just for sales, I think it's kind of sad. I'd be hoping that quality and innovation is somewhere in their thought process.

But, to each his own. If someone wants to buy a book just because its title is teh bomb, go right ahead.

Not to say that the book can't be a quality book, but from the blurb, it does sound like they rushed it.

How many own the Draconomicon, especially as compared to the other monster series books?
I own each book in the monster series, and in my opinion, the Draconomicon is the best one by far. Some of the other ones are good, but they're not close to the Draconomicon.

And I didn't buy it because the title was cool.

Now, why would creating something you know people are interested in be a bad thing?
It's not. The bad part is their focus. They're interested with sales, not quality. Sales are, of course, important, and companies should try to maximize their sales, but 'quickly developing a book' means to me that they knowingly skimped on quality.

The alternative -- "We know people want stuff on magic and on dragons, but SCREW THEM!" -- seems like a strange business plan. :p

Ahh, yes, the current marketing plan for Planescape and Greyhawk revivals. :\

Fixed it for you. Now it'll sell ten times as much.

From Gaming Reports - Gen Con Coverage of the DND Seminar.

Dragon Magic, the next release, did not follow the normal production cycle. According to Wotc staff they had a hole in the schedule and found they have had their best sales from items with the words dragon or magic in the title, so they quickly developed a book with those two words as the title.

2 word are go, quickly go write a book on those words.

Discuss.

I think it's cool. I love doing "concept development"; just taking two words, or a picture, or something, and seeing how many ways you can take it and build on it, and actually finish up with something fun and playable and interesting.

This honestly makes me more likely to buy this book.

Don't forget, the people who market the stuff and demand sales aren't the same people who write ad design the product...

WOTC Suits want books about dragons nad magic because it sells well, but the designers are still designing as always...
