Born With a Silver Spoon: Origins of Nobility

Adventuring can be a grubby, desperate sort of life. However, it has something of a glamor about it that lures those of high birth to pursue the career, despite its lack of comforts and high mortality rate. Whatever their reason, this article details a few kinds of nobility—some even from another plane—that may have chosen to venture forth. By Savannah Broadway and Andrew Engelbrite.

Curse(d) like a Pirate: Troubled Nautical Treasures

A pirate’s life is free of many problems—and full of many, many others. Sometimes those problems are your own crew or captain, often fellow pirates aboard other vessels or (more frequently) the navies, and sometimes those problems are treasures that might be more trouble than they’re worth. By Laurel Sheffield.

Mischief, Managed: Invisible Talkers

To progress to the next level, the gifted summoner must tackle the mastery of conjuring and exerting influence over sentient beings. Enter the invisible talker, an incorporeal and naturally inquisitive and communicative air elemental. When summoned, it need not be immediately dominated nor offered a soul-wagered bargain. Often it is enough to simply request of it a task it might have done of its own accord. It is in the nature of invisible talkers to take delight in causing mischief and mayhem, and is precisely this string upon which a mage apprentice pulls to convince the conjured elemental into doing their dirty work for them.
That both summoner and summoned share in the same delight is no accident. The link that forms between them is strengthened by a common goal, and forging a strong and binding connection is at the heart of every successful summoning. By Anthony Alipio.

Urban Archetypes

While many adventurers thrive and grow in wild forests, open steps, or across vast plains, some learn their skills in the rush of the world’s bustling cities and towns. By Marc Kenobi
