Just saw the Item Level table of the 3rd Ed Magic Item Compendium. It is exactly the same idea I'm going with for my 5E magic item repricing project (=expressing price as a level rather than a gold amount)!
Yep. I have a love/hate relationship with that table - the concept of item levels is something I really like for 5e (and worked pretty well for 4e, and I think work well in Starfinder). But the MIC for 3.5e really bugged me, because for that book what I really wanted was updates to the DMG's random magic item tables, not a replacement of them with something else.
