As someone who's managed GERD with both medicine and diet, I'd say you need to make sure you know what you're eating, no matter what it tastes like. And chew gum. This is something I discovered a couple of years ago, but chewing gum generates enough saliva to be much more effective of an antacid than OTC antacids and is easily competitive with H2-blockers like Pepcid and Zantac, IME.
