Recently Brontosaurus was elevated back to genus level, thanks to an extremely detailed an in-depth analysis of just how different the "Apatosaurus excelsus" species (now called Brontosaurus excelus again) was from other Apatosaurus species. While there is some dispute still, the paper was so well done (at least as good as the one that separated Brachiosaurus brancai out as Giraffatitan), that it appears Brontosaurus is likely to be here to stay.
