I've contracted the plague!

Ahhhh! It's like something out of "The Plague" by Camus! (Except without the existential philosophy)

Edit: Oh yeah, get well soon. Can't forget that. Hope you're feeling better.

Ack! Get better Morrus. I hope you are joking about the plague though. We still get a few cases a year out here in New Mexico, so it isn't too big a deal if you treat it promptly, but my understanding is that it is still nasty stuff.
No, it's just a really nasty cold. I didn't realise the plague actually still existed. You learn something new every day!

Yep. A couple of times a year, somebody gets the plague in New Mexico, and there's usually some health precautions in the general area, and in a little while everything returns to normal.

not just New Mexico. outbreaks still occur in other areas of the world too.

Interesting facts from "Diaglo's" site:

The plague doesn't crop up anymore in Europe or Australia.

It's still active in most of North America.

I had assumed it had been eliminated in North America myself, but according to the CDC it still crops up in rural areas - due to the flea problems no doubt.

the plague... Yersinia pestis is a bacteria.

there was an outbreak a couple years back in Thailand...due to improperly prepared meat.... the butcher died.

and a couple years before that... a mountain lion in Montana. someone ....."found" it dead in the wild and skinned it.

edit: The White Plague...aka TB... still kills.

Yes, Bubonic Plague still crops up in several places. It's just that living in New Mexico, we are often reminded that it is still here. We also have Hantavirus! TB is nasaty stuff too. Oddly enough, a lot of people were sent to New Mexico to benefit from the air in the hopes that it would relieve their TB. I vaguely remember hearing about resistant TB, but I had forgotten. Yeah, that is kind of scary.

Diaglo, do you work at the CDC? If so, that's interesting.
