Sometime back when the MM2 came out, there was a big hub-ub about a monster that could be powergamed to have a crit range that was psychotically low, like 2-20. I know it exists somewhere, i just cant find it. My friend thinks I'm lying, but i know i'm right... I think

It was the nimblewright. Its crit range is "only" 12-20, but giving it keen rapier-hands during construction could change that...

This is just my personal opinion, of course, but I'd rule that you cannot increase the crit range during construction by using keen rapiers? Why? Because, even though it's not spelled out in the Construction section, I have to assume that the rapiers are already keen, as part of the nimblewright's magic. (So they wouldn't function as keen for anyone else.)

After all, a normal rapier + the normal Improved Critical feat + Keen = a range of 12-20--exactly what the nimblewright has already.
 


Good call, Mouseferatu. But the nimblewright's "Construction" entry says nothing about the keen edge spell. I'm sure plenty of munchkin DMs (like me) have abused this to attempt to challenge their munchkin players (like mine)(I haven't, mostly because I've put a house rule 15-20 limit on crits).
