Jade Empire question

Ok, I'm getting back into console games. I have tryed to play KOTOR of Xbox but I hated the combat system. I tell one of my party members with agun to shoot someone at adistance, he runs right up next to him, and starts to shoot. Plus you could not just tell the character where to move. You had to move him manually. I know that Jade Empire is based of the KOTOR engine. Is the combat the same in Jade Empire the same as in KOTOR?

Yeah, you control just about every aspect (dodging and all) in JE.

Not that I didn't like the KotOR system. Lightsabers were what it was all aboot.

Another question. Do you only control one character in JE? Or a party? If its a party can you set it up for turn based combat?

In combat you only control your main character. You can have one additional party member helping you at a time (but you can switch around anytime you aren't in combat). Combat in the game is completely real-time, and plays like a hybrid of fighting game combat and RPG combat (with a little more emphasis on fighting game).

Also you can set your second party member to fight enemies (and the enemies will fight them back), except for one character or you can set party members to not take an active role in combat but to give you bonuses instead, except for one member.

So, if you want to do all the fighting and not worry about the other person dying, then you can set them to sit back and aid you. If you want them to be a nice decoy, you can tell them to fight (with their own AI) and help by splitting enemy fire.

I agree with what the others have said. I think Jade Empire's combat system is closer to Fable than to KOTOR (in that it's real time/action rather than turn based).

And, if you're getting back into consoles and haven't played Fable, you should definitely give it a try... once you've finished Jade Empire :)

Fable is an awesome game... while it lasts. It's very short by RPG standards, and you can win it in around 10 hours. You might want to consider renting Fable or borrowing it from a friend instead of buying it.

O wait a few more weeks and Pick up Fable:The Lost Chapters for the Xbox at about $20 bucks or so.
