James Wyatt hints at 5 new races in PHB2

So:
No Drow, Genasi, Changeling, Kalashtar, Shifter, or Warforged will be in the PHB2.

How many of these are confirmed as being in a CS though? His statement would still be accurate if we saw Shifter or Changeling in a PHB rather than the EbCS. WotC might think there's was enough "Core appeal" for those races to do that.

The below statements are all conjecture.

Duergar* - Psionic race for Psionic Power Source. Their "demonic" nature (as described in an earlier & article I believe) will be tones down to Tiefling levels.

Githzerai - Psionic race for Psionic Power Source. Also popular with the Planescape "implied setting" in Manual of the Planes I and II.

Gnome - A popular race left out of PHB I. The MM entry is not a full write-up, and they're generic enough not to go into a campaign guide.

Half-Orc - A popular race left out of PHB I. Also likely Primal to support the Primal Power Source in PHB II.

Shifter - A popular race in 3.5. Also, the Shifter Ranger in Races & Classes suggests they are considered for Core play. Also likely Primal to support the Primal Power Source in PHB II.

Those are some good guesses, but my favored candidate for the "D" slot is Doppelgänger (i.e. Changeling). Then when the Eberron CS arrives we'll get Warforged, Kalashtar, and the Artificer (two races and a class, just like the Forgotten Realms book).

But Warforged are already in the MM, and confirmed as one of the races that will be playable, right?

I am hoping the G stands for Goliath. I love the Giths (both zeri and yanki), but I really want to see the Goliaths get a 4th Edition write-up. I thought they were the best race that was introduced in the Races of ____ books. Mind you, the competition wasn't that fierce, given the boring other races, but still.

Well, it's always fun to speculate.. Then create answers to our speculation.. Then become raving lunatics about how our answers are from WoTC's mouths and how they are killing imagination and all things fun!

I have a feeling there will be at least one if not more completely new races. Any time they make a book with formal racial writeups, feats, options, and so on they have always added at least one new race that has never been seen before (for example: Races of___ and the Expanded Psionic Handbook). Wether it be somethig that had been in the works for a long time, or something the authors thought were kewl from their homemade world or to represent some new kewl rule.

If it's all preexisting races (if nothing more than in name alone). Irda Ranger has some strong logic behind his/her choices.

I think one of the "G"'s could be simply Gith, as in both Githzerai and Githyanki.

Wyatt essentially confirms this in the same interview.

More on topic, based on the context of the comment it seems highly likely one of those G's is the Gnome. Also with the comments about Half-Orcs I would expect the H to be Half-Orc, giving back all the basic races.

I wouldn't be surprised if one of the letters is the new Aasimar (G perhaps), but the suggestions of Gith and Druegar seem like good bets as well.

The races given 'playable' treatment in the MM supposedly have substantially fewer racial options than the ones in the PHB. Warforged will certainly get the full PC race treatment in the Eberron player's book if they haven't in print before then.
