Plot Twist Feats

During an adventure some developments come out of left field: an unexpected inheritance, an old partner coming for revenge, or a mysterious love letter. Plot twist feats are there for the players looking for a bit of narrative intrigue, ripe with potential for narrators to explore in campaigns that could use the odd distraction. Instead of taking the place of an adventurer’s feat selection, plot twist feats are taken alongside them, granting additional bonuses when you finish its associated quest. By Andrew Engelbrite.

Rumor Has It: Enhancing Your Game with Hints and Hearsay
Whispers about the movements of secret societies; dark mutterings about an adventurer’s dark past; embellished tales of a hero’s great deeds—whatever their form, rumors can be a very powerful tool for your campaign. For the purposes of this article, “rumor” is any useful and important information you want to share with your players in-game. Sources can include the town crier, rushed notes left behind by villains, a shouting match in the tavern, or a garrulous farmer in the village market square. Rumors and clues like these can build cohesion and bonds between player characters, drive narrative, build (and destroy) character reputations and status, and even promote clues that the players may have otherwise missed. Heralds of the Sea: Cadfaela’s Falcons
Since the primordial vampire lord Nimirtvi’s fall and end of the hauntings on the seas, the Ironfall Islands have not been idle, and the disparate settlements have banded together to support the flagging Order of the Cresting Wave with coin and arms. The ranks have swelled, but though these new Cadfaela’s Falcons are enthusiastic and know the waves, they are barely tested in battle—only a handful have proven worthy of becoming Falcon Knights. Even so, the mariner heralds of the northern isles are as bold a force upon the oceans of Elissar since their founding in the Imperial Age, bringing justice to the villainous and salvation to desperate souls lost at sea.
This article introduces the details and members of this herald order, as well as an archetype for those who wish to take to the seas themselves! By Mike Myler.

The Merland Bazaar
In a deep seafloor fissure near the Dreamless Shore lies the Merland Bazaar. The growth of multicolored corals and fast-moving fish adds color to the dark stone, sometimes revealing the trenches that branch off from the core. The faint shafts of sunlight that reach these depths create areas of light and shadow. Combining the dangers of being underwater with the challenges of a busy market, few dryland creatures are comfortable in the Merland Bazaar. For those who can visit, though, it is a place of wonder and opportunity. By Marc Kenobi.
