I've been working on-and-off for the past few years on a game called d20 Advanced Adventure Roleplaying Game, and at long last, it's ready for prime-time. Way back in the day, I had intended for it to be nothing more than a tweak for a D&D game with an alternate magic system, but as I started making changes, I kept finding other things that I could tweak to make the game play a little better, or make it a little more flexible, or just to make it more fun.
What I wound up with was pretty different from the starting point. Everything has been broken down to the essentials, enabling you to build just about anything you want with it. Any character, any genre, anything. In combat, any kind of maneuver you might want to try is possible and can be resolved pretty quickly. And not just tripping, grappling, and bullrushing, but even things like throwing sand in someone's eyes or yanking the rug out from under an enemy or even something as simple as a called shot to the head. And the Dramatic Interaction system gives you a simple but flexible and robust way to resolve everything from interrogations to temptations to chases to simple debates and arguments.
The idea is that you should be able to use the game to play the way you want. If you want a lot of tactical options in combat, you've got them, but you can just as easily clear them all out and have a very simple and lightning-fast system for resolving combat. The modular nature of the rules allows you to add and subtract options easily without breaking or unbalancing the game. If you've always disliked Attacks of Opportunity, for instance, you can remove it altogether, or just use the Combat Advantage system instead. You can also easily plug in or removes systems for Madness, Wealth, or even unique battlefield zones.
