Tomorrow, February 13th, Chaosium is finally releasing QuestWorlds! If you’re not familiar with it, QuestWorlds is the next evolution of a game system with a long history: it started as Hero Wars, then became HeroQuest, then HeroQuest Revised, and later HeroQuest Glorantha. Now, it’s back under a name Chaosium actually owns—and officially licensed under the ORC open gaming license!

The QuestWorlds SRD has already been available for two years, but this new release will bring a polished, complete rulebook, making it easier than ever for both players and game designers to dive in.

For me, QuestWorlds is one of the best TTRPG systems out there. It’s my go-to for quickly emulating any novel, movie, or TV show as an RPG setting. The rules are simple but incredibly flexible: the masteries mechanic elegantly handles characters of vastly different power levels, keywords make character creation smooth and adaptable—whether you need origins, classes, professions, guilds, or anything else the setting requires...

It's a system that encourages narrative-driven play while still offering just enough structure to keep conflicts interesting. And now, with a real release, and with the force of the ORC licence, I’m hoping to see even more settings and homebrew content flourish!

So... am I the only one hyper-hyped for its release? Who else has been waiting for this?

HeroQuest 2E was a fantastic game. I haven't been keeping track of this one, but I'm looking forward to learning more. Though my interest is diminished quite a bit due to Chaosium's continued use of overly restrictive 3PP licenses.

First I've heard of it, but I'm not a super fan of Chaosium. They are a great company that publishes great games, just not games I play or pay attention to.

The author list on the cover is impressive though! Laws and Stafford! Awesome!

I'm pretty happy with the games I have, but if the opportunity comes around, I'll check out the new QuestWorld core book.

This is the 1st time I've heard of it as well, although I am a fan of Chaosium owning all the CoC7 core books, Basic Roleplaying UGE and the new Pendragon 6e. The description at chaosium.com and drivethru tell me next to nothing about the core play mechanics - no preview at DTRPG and the one at Chaosium is just the ToC.

So, what is the core play mechanic for this system?

It's advertised as being setting agnostic, so I'm assuming it's targeted at homebrewers like me. But for homebewing, I already have BRP, Mythras, Savage Worlds, Fate Core, Cepheus Engine, Cortex Prime and True20. Does QuestWorlds deliver something new to the brewery that I don't already have?

Personal hype level is moderate. But I've still got a beat-up copy of Hero Wars kicking around, so it's not like I've been missing it or HQ.

Kind of like BRP. Nice to see an updated version, but I had the big yellow book still, so it wasn't anything vital.
