This is a cut throat world, especially business. Not too many businesses will tell you weeks ahead of time if they are letting you go. In most cases they tel you a month ahead of time (or sooner) that they will be layoffs, and leave it a mystery for all to worry about until the day security walks you out. Its a new age and an age were workers have to think as themselves as personal businesses. You have to protect your best interest and do it as covertly as possibly. When i was young in my journalism career I told a 20 year old editor i worked for that i was dedicated to the publication and i didn't even plan on looking anywhere else after graduation (i had a guaranteed job there). He told me some great advice i still remember today, always keep your options open, because people get paid more money than you to manage numbers, and in the end all u are is a number on a budget.
