Good idea, Matt! RPG Writers', Artists' and Editors' Handbook.

I know what I'm getting myself into and really don't mind. (And no, I am not a 'glutton for punishment' as my parents often times think!:D)

With my laptop computer and my desktop, I can actually get more work done than with just the desktop.

As a freelancer, I'd be very interested in a book like this. Heck, if I can help at all, I'd be glad to. Perhaps the site/book/whatever could also publish essays by established freelancers (not that I consider myself one just yet, mind) containing advice on such subjects as approaching publishers, writing for various genres, etc.

All right, I was working on this idea last night and came up with the name -- The Sourcebook for RPG Freelancers. Also been gathering together a list of all the rpg publishers that are out there.

The listing of publishers would include both d20 and non-d20 companies. It will also have information on the various ezines and print magazines that are out there as well.

By having it in a pdf format, it will be easier to add new publishers that emerge.

I like the idea of having articles or tips by established freelancers and will look into that. In fact, it would be interesting to have an article by a freelance writer who has been in the business for at least 10 years, to comment on how things have changed in that period of time for freelancers. Then have an article by a freelance writer who has been in the business for just the past two years.

And why not an article by a yet unpublished freelance writer?

As you can see, I've been thinking a lot about this since Matt first brought the idea up. Mongoose Matt, thank you for the inspiration!

I am not sure an article by an unpublished writer will be of much help in a source that is designed to help people get puclished :)

However, give me a shout in private and I will see if I can put you in touch with someone like Matt Forbeck or Sam Witt, both long-tooth freelance writers.

Also, see if you can pick up the Writers Handbook (I am sure there must be an American version). It is very cheap and will give you lots of ideas about format and layout - yes, they have articles in there too about how to go about being published!

Once you get this up and running, I'll start passing the word around to other publishers (including non-d20 ones) to see if interest cannot be generated. However, I would suggest you stick to using Submission Guidelines from company sites for now.

Thanks, Matt! I do have an older copy of the Writer's Digest publishers' listing, just have to figure out where I put it. But I do have one other that was put out specifically for Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers a few years ago, that has such things in it as well. Articles and the like.

Once I get a few more details worked out, I will be contacting you by email. Probably in the next day or so.
