Jog my memory about a movie pun.

In Blazing Saddles, early on when they're going to hang Bart (the man who would become sheriff), were they also hanging a horse -- the implication being that he's hung . . . like a horse -- or was that gag in some other movie?

You know, I think so but for the life of me I cant remember where.

Hmmm...

Bart: [on grandstand to the townspeople] Excuse me while I whip this out.
[reaches into waistline as crowd gasps and screams; Bart pulls out paper, they sigh with relief]

Bart returns unexpectedly after being sentenced to death]
Charlie: They said you was hung.
Bart: And they was right.

Outdoors, the executioner is booked solid with gallows victims, and the noise of one execution sends a frightened Taggart into Lamarr's arms. He is comforted: "That's all right, shhh, it's all right, Taggart. Just a man and a horse being hung out there."

I'm not sure if any of those help, that's all I can find.

:)

On the DVD, it's at about 12:20. Taggart asks Lamarr to hang Bart (who hit Taggart in the head with a shovel). Lamarr sticks his head out the window to ask the executioner when he can fit one in. That's when the man (not Bart) is being hanged, along with his horse. The previous hangee was in a wheelchair.

While its not outside the realm of possibility that Mel Brooks was making a visual pun about horses & how they are hung, I've always interpreted that gag in the context of the other people at the gallows- their code of justice is so strict, they're hanging the criminal AND his horse.
