John Carter of Mars Movie in Trouble?

Gomez

First Post
I picked this up from a unoffical John Carter of Mars movie website. Gosh I hope it isn't true.

Sorry about the following bit of depressing gossip... but Tangor reports from a friend of a friend that Paramount has renewed the POM / JCOM contract for just another 6 months, the final script apparently sucks (not sure who thinks so specifically) and the director Kerry Conrad is now dubious as to the movie's completion.

Maybe the property will fall to a company that will bring Robert Rodriguez back on board as director. He was originally tapped for it before the thing with Sin City caused him to quit the directors guild and removed from consideration by Paramount.

I hope so myself, I think he is the right director for it, he wants to to do it (last I heard).

The reason Rodriguez is the correct director for this tale is because he will cast Salma Hayek as Dejah Thoris.

And all will be right in the world.

Dude that is an amazingly good call. :)

I agree with Gomez though, you need a decent screen writer for this, crap script will = crap movie unfortunately.

I'm currently torn between the wild thoat of "I want this movie made as soon as possible!" and the mad zitidar of "I want this movie to be done right."

I suppose I'd better just be patient and hold out for the zitidar.

Hmmm, I hesitate to ask if you think that she will be wearing the proper costume for the role...

I don't think the Director is the problem but it is the screenwriter(s).
I think that the problem is a studio that cannot tell the difference between good interplanrtary pulp adventure novels and a miminal plot sci-fi action film.
