I am almost positive that all of the beasts got shunted over to animal, actually. Since one of the requirements for beasts was "could have existed IRL, but didn't." Just so you know.

I'd hate to have ENWorld's resident editor mistyped. Who knows what kind of havoc that could cause with the new alter self rules!

Nah, John has at least two spell-like abilities: error seeing and protection from typo, so he'd be a magical beast.

I'm pretty sure that only the dinos were turned into animals. The others, like owlbears, became magical beasts.

Yeah, I had based my comment above on the owlbear, the "iconic" 3.0 beast (it didn't exist in real life, but wasn't particularly magical).

Curses! Foiled again! Hmm... Well, I only really noticed the change in the dinosaurs. Owlbears were just beasts in 3.0? Did not know that.
