Journey to The Rock - your experiences?

First Post
Forty-fourth thread of a series on the old classic Dungeons & Dragons adventure modules. It is interesting to see how everyone's experiences compared and differed.

Did you Play or DM this adventure (or both, as some did)? What were your experiences? Did you complete it? What were the highlights for you?

It's a short boring railroad with three tracks and pointless fluff that doesn't have the crunch. It's a sprite who thinks it's a giant. After we got through it the general feeling was "that was it?".

I wonder if "Michael Malone" and "Harry Nuckols" (author of B9) were pseudonyms, much like "Richard Awlinson" as the author of some of the Forgotten Realms Avatar novels.

I don't recall ever seeing either name again on a TSR product, and I can't help but wonder if some of these later adventures were given the "Alan Smithee" treatment by embarrassed TSR staffers and/or freelancers.

I played this one as part of a BD&D campaign in junior high. This is all I remember about our thrilling Journey to the Rock:

Players: "Man, this is boring and lame. Can we just turn around and go home."
DM: "Ummm... look, this is all I have prepared. Did I mention there's a sword +2 at the end?"
Me, Playing a Fighter Who Really Wanted a Sword +2: "Yeah, this adventure is great. Now shut up and keep marching."

Repeat that about 5 or 6 times, and you have our Journey to the Rock.

And yes, I did get the sword +2. I don't think the campaign went on for long enough for me to ever actually enjoy it, though.
