Journeyman-Season 1/Story 2--Friendly Skies -10/1/2007

I disagree about him proving he time traveled last week -- he could have put the toolbox and newspaper and a copy of her ring there 7 years earlier right before building the patio.

Heh, the ring he JUST HAD RESIZED? :)

This week, though, vanishing off of a 747 mid-flight, that's much more solid proof.

I didn't really get the idea the wife didn't believe. I figured she was just trying to deal with the situation, especially in regard to the pregnancy thing. This is why I think it'll get tedious, if they constantly have to retread the same "should we be together" stuff, or at least in the same manner they're doing it.

I've watched the first two episodes now and I find the show very boring. I might give it one more shot next week, but if it doesn't improve, I doubt I'll stick with it. I already have too much TV I watch on Mondays.

I do have to say that the directing and cinematography are fantastic, though. The show is definitely pretty, but I need more to keep me watching.

They've only really addressed in in one episode, though, and they addressed it very head-on, so it doesn't need to be a major focus from here on, though it will likely always be an issue, and quite understandably.

Just decided to opine that in only two episodes this show, like Bionic Woman, is rapidly losing my interest. The writing is a bit stronger here than BW - the scene in the pilot where he digs up the ring from under the concrete was quite effective for example - but I remain seriously ungripped.

There's no sense of real urgency to whatever is happening. It feels like it's all pitched too low-key for its own good. Stumbling his way through someones life as an intermittent guardian angel doesn't hold much drama when we have no freaking clue what's really at stake through all of it, or even who we (and he) should actually be concerned ABOUT since that seems to change partway through the episodes.

His old, dead/alive girlfriend really needs to spill what's ACTUALLY happening here and soon. If they try to drag it out as a season-spanning mystery I don't think _I_ for one will have the patience to see it through.

By contrast I happened to stumble upon an in-progress second episode of Life (didn't see the pilot) and was quickly intrigued by the plot, characters, etc. As a result I intend to go LOOKING for the pilot online to fill in the backstory of the lead character. And that is a show I knew nothing about. Both Journeyman and Bionic Woman were shows that I knew of ahead of time and were at least mildly intriguing but had I stumbled across either of their second episodes in progress I'd have moved on to the next channel very rapidly if not just turned the TV off.

I, too, was anticipating this show since i heard about it. But it hasn't yet "grabbed" me in that special way ;)

I do kind of like how it is recent enough time travel and local time travel such that we are actually seeing glimpses of his own life at different stages (albeit, in a slightly soap opera way since his now wife was dating his brother before and his then fiance is "dead" and the now wife and then fiance were friends/sisters/close?)

I do NOT like that they haven't even gotten any closer to explaining what makes him so special to be the journeyman, etc or that the people he has helped don't seem to think of him as a stalker for always 'showing up" or that they keep having that "oh, there is my 'dead' fiance, i loved her and miss her" moment/look when he sees her for the first time after a time jump (don't get me wrong, he does the look well but i've seen it enough now).

i say all this with a grain of salt since it has only been two episodes of a new show. it might need to find its ground or trying to take time to explore things. so i do plan on giving it a couple more tries.. but i'm not promising more than that for now. ;)

Just wanted to chime in and say that Life is my second favorite new show of the year (after Pushing Daisies). It's really very good, and the pilot was better than this second episode (which was also good). Definitely recommended.

The fact that the other time tripper is his Former (?) Love is the only thing that allows me to accept that he hasn't shoved her against a wall, holding her throat, and telling her: "Talk or die!" But if she doesn't Real Quick, I'm done.

I don't mind not knowing the full details of each line, but it would be nice if he could get some more information when he's back in the future.

Yeah, by all indications she has been at this a while, and it'd be nice if she could at least share what she knows. At the least, she should scribble a note explaining some details. Old money I can see, but the old cellphone also bugged me.

I like Life, it's a fun "detective" story, but the lead actor is a bit too "off" for me. I think it's the lips. Just odd, and not in a way that benefits the story for me.

Still a fun show with a metaplot that seems like it should be fun and engaging. I didn't watch Monk early one, so not sure if they ever used his wife's death in a similar manner, but it'd be interesting to see how the original crime is handled. (Can't keep it open forever, as it were.)

What she meant, of course, is that one day when he's particularly far back in time, he should open a bank account with a lot of money and set up a bill-paying service to constantly pay for cell service for him, for the next 10 years or whatever, because I don't know otherwise how an old cell phone manages to suddenly be authorized on the network, unless it was exactly the phone and carrier he was already using that year.

They have addressed it in Monk now and then over the seasons, especially the first few, but it was uncommon, and did very little to tie episodes together.
