Judging the ENnies products

Reading Master of the Games list of products submitted for consideration made me think two things. One, I am glad I didn't win a Judge position, because that is some darn good product from which to decide which is the top 5. Tons of good to excellent submissions.

Two, it would have been nice to be a Judge to get all that excellent compensation for being a Judge.

I feel for you judges. If I was doing it I think I would be feeling tormented trying to rank them. Excellent stuff.

I actually was not as impressed with the stuff this year as I have been in past years. I've read all of it now even though I'm not a judge. There are some great products but not a lot of great ones.

Where's that broom?

It should do well what it gets nominated for but I'd be surprised if it gets nominated for a lot of categories. I'd probably place it in:

Best Production Values
Best Setting
Best d20/OGL Product
Product of the Year

Just looked over the list, and yes, I had the same thoughts.

Those plus:

Best Cartography
Best Interior Art
Best Cover Art (one of the few categories that I can see it entered but not winning - though I think the cover is cool)
Best Writing

However, if it doesn't at least sweep the categories you mention I'd be quite astounded.

It could get nominated for those but I don't think it is top five in any of them.

Really? Wow.

I agree that most does not equal best, but to say it's not a top candidate for Best Interior Art is incredible. What would you say (out of the nominees) has the best interior art?

Off the top my head (as I'm not a judge I didn't make lists of this stuff) I'd say one of those M&M books really impressed me, I really like Mythologies, the iron kingdoms books, some of the warhammer, Castlmourn, and Caliph Nights.

The only one I have of the ones you mention is Castlemourn.

The art in Castlemourn is hit and miss with me, so I'd have to disagree.

(Of course, it's art we're talking about, so it's hard to find a more subjective category.) :)
