How's this for a Juicy rumour...

Taken from the rec.games.frp.dnd newsgroup. I cannot vouch for the authenticity of this rumor.

==========

Just got a juicy rumor for you guys from one of the distributors.

"Hasbro is in negotion with Topps cards for sale of Wizards of the Coast (D&D, Magic, Pokemon, etc.)

I guess they're cutting their losses and we can all expect to see
character sheets with statistics that go back to a character's rookie year ;) I'm hoping they have those 3-D character pictures liek used to be on the cards from the back of the Kelloggs boxes in the 80's."

I can tell you right now that not only is this a rumor, but this is a bad rumor. Pokemon and Magic make plenty of money, so I can't see why it would let them go.

Let me get this straight. You think companies only sell off divisions that do not make plenty of money? Are you serious?

I've bought and sold several dozen companies (as an M&A attorney). Most (though not 100%) of those transactions involved a division, or an entire company, that was making plenty of money. In fact, that was usually the point! Few companies want to buy a division or company that is NOT making plenty of money.

I have no idea if this rumor is true or not (though there seems to be a new rumor every month). However, it certainly could be true. And if it is also true that Pokemon and Magic are making plenty of money (but are not the types of games that Hasbro is currently focusing on), it just lends more credibility to the rumor.

Yes you have it strait. And given that Hasbro is doing badly in all other sectors, it would be stupid to sell of WOTC assets. When you consider the fact that Hasbro is poised to over take Tyco, it doesn't make sense. Hasbros history of keeping games and occationally rebranding them. So given there current history, it doesn't make sense.

No, this rumor is not true and I'd be willing to lay my years worth of pay against yours.

It's the apocalypse!

again... ;)

Seriously, those rumours come and go without end. We are at a point that these are usually disbelieved no matter how convincing they sound, or how realistic they may be. I, for one, will only believe it when I see it.

Notice how these rumors are always from an anonymous insider qouting an equally anonymous 'distributor' who has some grand insight into the business dealings of every company whose products (it is assumed) he carries?

Why even waste time reposting this garbage? No offense, it's just a waste of time.
