[July] What are you playing?

Xbox: KotoR… Yes, I’m still in the same spot as last month. (For our new posters this has become an almost epic joke. For those who missed last update, I’m at the last fight but I cannot win… My oldest save that will let me back track is about 3-4 hours behind and it’s all combat... Long story short, I don’t really play much anymore but I do have dreams of beating it.)

PS2: I picked up a lot of games on vacation but haven’t given any a serious try yet.

Gamecube: Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, I really like this game and I was kicking ass on it on leave till I got stuck. (But now I know what to do. :) ) NBA Street Vol. 3 (and the wife is playing one of them Harvest Moon games.)

GBA: Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls

Malak is an incredibly unfair last boss, and to beat him you'll have to fight dirty. Try to keep throwing thermal detonators at him. Sometimes you can him in a loop where as he is standing up (since those grenades knock people over) you can hit him with another one. You might have to try a few times to get it too work. I was able to unload my entire stash of those things, making the fight less painful.

If you're not already, try to have on the three stat boosting stims and the battle stimulant.

Finally, there is a difficulty setting in the options menu. Lowering it to easy for this one fight is perfectly justifiable ;) .

Yeah, I've read that somewhere... I don't think I have many to use though and that I need to back track to a time frame where I can buy them. (Then again I've not used many or any at all during the game cause bad things always happen when I try to.)

Yeah, I have a game full in my inventory. (I’ve only ran into two battles that I could do nothing with Malak and the time you fight two of the force creatures on the Sith Korriban in that temple. Even Master and Pupil where easy in retrospect. I probaly didn't do the game in proper order... I found myself on Korriban quite early cause of family issues.)

And i might, I just might.

Fighting Malak, hmm...

First, the general KotOR advice -- it handles saves like a PC game, not a console game. Remember that you can save anywhere and any time, even in the middle of battle. So if you get in a few good attacks without being hit, save the game.

And the general Malak advice -- run around and take out the people that he's going to drain life off of first, before you do anything else.

Beyond that ---

Are you a Soldier/Guardian or something else? And what force powers do you have? And do you have a large stock of the best healing item in the game (you'll want to use your Force powers for other things, if you can)?

You don't actually have to fight those two things, at least not in any fair fashion. You can get by them and into the room next door (where the stuff you want is) without fighting them, and since they can't get in the room, you can take them out with your blaster after that.

Also, if you're not a soldier/guardian, mines are your friends.

Yeah, I do that pretty regularly.

Yeah, I do that also but it seems like you have to wait for him to use one before you can do it. (I guess they don't want you to metagame game it.)

I went Scoundrel/Guardian I think I'm a 8/12 or a 6/14. I've been told I level up my Scoundrel class a little too much. As for healing, no I don't really have alot of items, I do have alot of money though to buy them though. (I also don't have access to Xbox Live so I cannot download the 'weapon's spaceport' where alot of stuff can be bought.)

Yeah, I minded the beep out of them. I spent like 20 minutes laying mines up to the point where they cannot detect you. (lots of saves) and then making my presences know but yeah I ran around slashed here and there while using one to screen the other.

And sometimes I just ran in a really big circle so my force energy could recover. ;)

Nice to know I don't have to play fair when I play it again. (I still have dreams of beating it on the dark side, which I hear is easier.)

Hmmm. I don't remember having to do that, but you can badly damage Malak out of the gate with well-placed mines, so taking him down once isn't all that hard.

That could be the biggest problem. You're not a soldier/guardian, so you probably can't beat him just by standing and fighting (using healing items every once in a while) after you take out his power-up friends (Destroy Droid is the fastest way to do this if you're a good Jedi, and you should have it considering how often you have to fight really tough droids). And you're not a consular, so the Force Wave/attack (use grenades or thermal detonators)/heal cycle method probably costs too much (making sure to keep Force Immunity up until Malak's out of force points).

I guess you put mines down one side of the long pathway and run down the other side hopeful that he will mine himself?

Nope, I don't last to long...

Yeah I have the droid killing force powers. It’s the one that takes out the dead Jedi with one attack.

That would probably be a good idea... I'll still think I need to backtrack and get more healing and grenades. (I also know now that I missed the Jedi Robes that the Star Forge will make for you... :heh: )
