Just found out about these islands and I'm trying to cook up an adventure!

Wikipedia is a great adventure hook resource. Here's one I couldn't ignore:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Axe_Murder_Incident

"his team was accompanied by a 30 man security platoon armed with pistols and axe handles. In addition, a 64 man ROK (Republic of Korea) team of Tae Kwon Do experts accompanied them."

Kim Jong Il and axe-wielding Communists vs South Korean martial artists. I haven't felt so good about a plot hook since the "redneck Mafia".

Inaccessible Island is a great setting for "The Greatest Game" or something like that, being a poorly attended nature preserve practically in the middle of nowhere. I wonder if it has any connection to Lost? (I doubt it, but you could probably create a connection.)

You capitalized Modern, does that mean a scenario with the system, or in a contemporary setting? I would do the former and have the party be on a boat that visits Napoleon en route to South America, only to unwittingly bring a message from Bonaparte to rebels who want to spring him.
Anything goes, man!

Perhaps the PCs are aboard a cruise liner or some other ship that is waylaid by pirates. the hostages are taken to Inaccessable Island, where the pirate lord releases them one at a time into the wilds, and then hunts them down for sport.

The PCs have to come up with a plan to escape, defeat the pirates, and get the hostages to Tristan da Cunha, or at least make contact with the outside world.

Bonus points if the pirate leader has an eyepatch or a fondness for apples. ;)

You know, something like this wouldn't be a bad idea for a regular series. Each week highlights some obscure locale, with relevant adventure hooks included.

All good, keep 'em comin'!

It occurred to me to search for the most remote islands on Earth after staring at an Air France map of the world, and there were these tiny islands all around the Antratic Ocean, and I kept getting images of R'lyeh, Skull Island, Lost and whatnot.

Well, then here you go: South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands. No (official) permanent settlements and nothing of particular value, but Argentina and the UK have rattled swords over them many times. Clearly, something's up...

For Tristan de Cunha, I dunno if I'd go with the Innsmouth angle, it's been (IMHO) overdone. Maybe more of a Shangri-la angle - make everybody there in unusually good health, and on investigation it turns out most of 'em are over a century old. They've found the secret to eternal health, but are worried it'll run out so they keep it quiet. PCs might stumble on some ancient diary that points the way, or run afoul of some villain who's planning to exploit the islands, or perhaps a movie shoot descends on the quiet community and odd things happen when various imported animals brought in for the movie shoot drink the local water.

This one almost writes itself:

Very Rare Antarctic Sleeper Shark Caught

The rare Antarctic Sleeper Shark. Photo by Andrew Bayne

A rare Antarctic Sleeper Shark was caught as bycatch by the toothfish vessel “San Aspiring” this month. The odd doughy looking shark was a small example at 116cm long. They are thought to reach well over 600cms when fully grown, and may even be the biggest predatory shark in the world.

Antarctic Sleeper Sharks are known to eat toothfish, rock cod, penguins, seals, squid and octopus. They hit the headlines in January 2004 when it was discovered that they are one of only two known predators of Colossal Squid (the other being Sperm Whales).

The shark has been frozen and will be delivered to a museum in New Zealand by the ship that caught it, which is New Zealand registered.
