Just found out one of my fellow players is a famous author!

Have her run an adventure. Writers make great DMs.

I don't know if Kimberly would be interested in DMing; right now she's just getting used to the 4e rules system (and playing a 4e PHB Warlord without the electronic charbuilder is jumping in at the deep end, IMO). Depending on her research plans & desires it might be a good idea for her to try her hand at DMing some time though, at least a one-shot, I agree.

OK, she's not JK Rowling, but judging by a quick look at amazon.com her teen vampire novels doing pretty darn well! :D Her name is Kimberly Pauley, and I just found out today about her authorialness. She discusses playing in the first two sessions of our "Dungeon Crawl Classics: Punjar Saga" 4e game here:

On Slaying Dragons Kimberly Pauley

I just rebuilt her PC Warlord Thalia for her this morning before I found out about this, maybe I'll get a free copy of the forthcoming novel!

How long had she been playing with you before you found out?

I would guess about one or two sessions (it is really a quite educated guess, I might add ;)).

I had originally thought that as well, but it could also be her discussing the first two sessions of the current ongoing campaign, which has been going on for a year or more in the context of how to open a D&D campaign or similar.

Kimberly blogged about it after the second session she played in, then she had to go back to the USA for 3 weeks/3 sessions, then she was back for her 3rd session, the 6th of the campaign, last Monday. Campaign session #7 is tomorrow.

Sounds like she hit lucky with yourself and would have been out the door with a more crunchy, grindy 4e game.

It's pretty much a by-the-book 4e campaign, as far I can tell. I think the DM Mark generally does a good job in minimising grind, in particular he's very good at working with the published material to make it more dynamic. Most of the players were new to 4e and have been on a learning curve getting used to the action economy and other fiddlier bits.
