Just got my Dragon Compendium - Pretty!

Morgenstern

First Post
Just starting to skim it (UPS dropped it off 10 minutes ago). I recognize some of the art, and some I don't, but it is a very pretty presentation. Looking forward to reading in more detail.

I'll be up for questions on and off for for the next hour or two.

So far I like it. Some of the prestige classes are recent enough that I had them already (not sure if they've been updated or changed in any way, but they look sound).

Battle Dancer seems to be pretty clearly an alternate Monk, but with some nice twists (one dancing ability gives encouragement to teammates by divig headlong into an enemy's threatened area).

Death Master is an old, old friend. It's good to see him return, and he's come well prepared for (un)life as a major nemesis for most PC groups. It has some really nice tradeoffs vs. the standard wizard or necromantic specialist.

Just starting to browse the feats now. No new spells, so it looks like they were aware of the Spell Compendium comming out soon, and worked to not overlap with it.

Pretty simple and easy to import. You may take your damage multiplier like normal or inflict normal damage and roll on a percentile table of various effects that last rounds, minutes, or hours or cause ability score damage. Really nasty results generate a Fort save or die (decapitation and such). High multiplier weapons allow multiple rolls, keeping the single result you preffer.

Fumbles are straight up inverse of crits - roll a 1, roll again, if you miss a second time, you confirm the fumble and roll on a separate percentile table. the worst rolls on that direct you back to the crit table, but targeting yourself.

Honestly, I like it. Good spice with minimal effort.

There is a ToC up at the Paizo site. They almost bash you over the head with it when you come through the door (very Seven Samurai of them :p). There is also an exerpt with a monster in there somewhere, but it's far from demonstrative of how nice the art is in this book.

This is another one I will buy, with the Spell Compendium. It sounds really interesting.
However, I must first get through the Player's Handbook and DMG first (as per my thread.)

It wasn't in Games Plus yesterday, and Games Plus is like the prime of stores. If it's not there, it's because it's either A)Not out or B)Sold out. I'm going with A on this one but maybe some people have broken a "street date".
