Just how big is a HalfOgre (half human)?

Hi,

I'm talking about a PC (Human) taking the Half-Ogre template. Specifically, this line in the template description:
"If the Base Creature was of Small or Medium size, its size is increased by one category, ..."

Okay, so for a Human, a medium creature, the Half-Ogre template would make a Large creature.

Does this mean the new character takes up 4 Squares (instead of 1)? This does not make sense..
from the MM:
-An Ogre is approx 600 lbs, 9-10 ft tall
-A Human is approx 200 lbs, 6ft tall

so.. a Half-Ogre should be about 400lbs, 8ft tall (I'm not a PhD in Genetics.. but...)

Why does he take up 400% of the space a 6ft 200lbs thing (human) takes?

Shouldn't this hybrid take something like 2 squares?

Thanks!

Yes, but 'space' is always a square. So, a space of 4 for a large creature. Remember 'space' is more than size -- it is a reflection of how much room the creature needs to function comfortably. Arms are longer, shoulders and hips wider, etc. There is no 'facing', so the space it takes up has to be square to reflect that.

Large doesn't mean you fill a 10' square... it means thats the room you need to be completely effective in combat. After all, large creatures can still squeeze through 5' wide corridors... (or even narrower with good escape artist checks, but the 5' is a given)

What he said. If a three foot tall halfling "fills" a 5 ft square, an 8 ft tall half-ogre "fills" a 10 ft square.
