Howcome nobody is rippin' on this guy for not ordering from his FLGS, yet anybody who wants to save a buck over at walmart.com is some form of evil capitalism that will ruin the game forever? ...just wonderin'

It's not evil but it's insensitive to our hobby and it could easily lead to a collapse of the fragile market that is RPG gaming.

I'm not going into my whole rant but I'll flat out tell you it isn't a joke nor do I find it funny that apathetic gamers choose saving a buck short term over supporting their hobby long term. I understand trying to save money but I draw the line at giving it to a place like Wal-Mart.

Wal-Mart has no interest in whether gaming is around now or 5 years from now as long as they're flattening yet another local business. That's what they do best. Oh, and they're not even going to carry the books in their stores as that would generate too much heat by selling "the devil's game" directly to young impressionable minds.

The bottom line is I want gaming to last for quite some time to come and I have a vested interest in gaming as a whole. I've also done my best to help out my fellow gamers by offering 25% off the core books. I still have to pay rent and keep the lights on so that's the best I can do.

So, now tell me how I'm wrong about this? ;D

You're not.

Personally, I spread the love around. I have ordered from ENworld, your store, amazon.com, B&N and my FLGS. It all depends on my finances on any particular month.

But it would be nice to have one of these threads not break down into the same debate as the others. I believe the original poster was just looking for a little info on the place where he placed an order. I was just trying to help as I (and a few others) had a little info on it.

Side Note: Derek, you are doing a great job. The transaction I had with your store was solid. I recommend anyone buying online to consider Talon Comics as a place to purchase RPG materials.

Since it was born back in the 1970s, Dungeons and Dragons has survived accusations of causing teen suicides and devil worship. It has lasted through the rise of PC RPGs, and then MUDS, and then MMORPGS. It continued to perservere even after losing many players to CCGs back in the early 90s. Heck, D&D even managed to survive the collapse of TSR.

Because of this, I don't think the RPG industry is in any danger of collapsing just because gamers decide to buy from a discount retailer instead of a "FLGS."

First off, thank you and thanks for spreading the love. I've had a rough time for about a year that I'm finally almost out of and it's good to be back amongst the gaming.

Second, I try not to rant about this topic too much but it's something I'm very passionate about and it means a lot to me. There are a lot of things that can make or break small press publishers and I just don't want to see any additions to their or my problems.

I hope no one is thinking I'm being malicious about this because I don't feel that way... I just like to make people aware.

What's wrong with me, that I don't feel so anxious about buying the new books? I know that morning i'll turn up my PC and check the SRD as soon as I wake up, but am I the only one who wants to know which are the differences between the 3 manuals and the september "gift set", before choosing which to buy?
