Just pre-ordered 3.5 from Amazon

Actually, the reason I bought from amazon this time is because I had a coupon or I would have probably bought locally at my FLGS where I get 20% off everything. [/B]

Their shipping is standard (3 - 7 business days) or priority (2 - 3 business days) Their shipping is really cheap but they charge sales tax so it works out to be about the same shipping add on as other places.

Howcome nobody is rippin' on this guy for not ordering from his FLGS, yet anybody who wants to save a buck over at walmart.com is some form of evil capitalism that will ruin the game forever?

...just wonderin'

My local FLGS is stopping their support of table top RPGs. They have recently cut down the RPG section to a very small back corner of the store and increased the warhammer and CCG sections. Sorrry, I can't support someone who does not support me. Also being unaware of my financial situation you are in no place to criticise me for saving a buck or two.

It's not evil but it's insensitive to our hobby and it could easily lead to a collapse of the fragile market that is RPG gaming.
First off bah, your are simply and truely wrong in this account. As long as the products sell WotC gets their money and the hobby continues.

I'm not going into my whole rant but I'll flat out tell you it isn't a joke nor do I find it funny that apathetic gamers choose saving a buck short term over supporting their hobby long term. I understand trying to save money but I draw the line at giving it to a place like Wal-Mart.

Okay, first of all, I will ignore the flame. I am not pathetic. But I am poor. Who in god's name do you think you are to pass judgement on my buying practices without access to my back account? You sir are practicing in nothing short of descrimination and I do not appreciate it. Now I normally purchase my d20 stuff direct from the publisher which generally yields them a larger, not smaller, cut of the pie. These publishers are the ones who carry the hobby. So you can put your opinions of my purchasing habbits killing the hobby in a small dark place. Second, Wal-Mart is a large corporation and so is Hasbro. All that Hasbro cares about is their bottom line, not a bad thing just a corporate thing. So as long as I purchase the books somewhere, anywhere, I am doing just as much as the next guy to support the hobby. You want to rip on someone for causeing the downfall of the hobby how about those using the SRD instead of purchasing the core books?

Wal-Mart has no interest in whether gaming is around now or 5 years from now as long as they're flattening yet another local business. That's what they do best. Oh, and they're not even going to carry the books in their stores as that would generate too much heat by selling "the devil's game" directly to young impressionable minds.
And Hasbro is any differet? It's all corporate politics man. One corporation is no whiter then another. Look at the WotC retail stores.

The bottom line is I want gaming to last for quite some time to come and I have a vested interest in gaming as a whole. I've also done my best to help out my fellow gamers by offering 25% off the core books. I still have to pay rent and keep the lights on so that's the best I can do.
Well good for you. I don't live any where near you. You seem upset because you're not making that much money on your store. Don't take that out on my, and don't critcise me because of it.

So, now tell me how I'm wrong about this? ;D
Explained above.

Side Note: Derek, you are doing a great job. The transaction I had with your store was solid. I recommend anyone buying online to consider Talon Comics as a place to purchase RPG materials.

Talon Comics huh, well after publicly being called pathetic by the owner I don't think I'll be purchasing anything from that store in the near future.

What's wrong with me, that I don't feel so anxious about buying the new books? I know that morning i'll turn up my PC and check the SRD as soon as I wake up, but am I the only one who wants to know which are the differences between the 3 manuals and the september "gift set", before choosing which to buy?

I was actually feeling much this same way. Then when I look at the suppliments coming out in late 03 that I intend to buy everyone was listed as 3.5e compatible, but didnot state 3.0e compatible. So I decided to purchase the books as I can never make it through the dry SRD.

I am not pathetic.

Apathetic = having little or no interest or concern

Pathetic = having a capacity to move one to either compassionate or contemptuous pity

There are a lot of things that can make or break small press publishers and I just don't want to see any additions to their or my problems.

Of course, where you buy your core books from is not going to affect the small press publishers in the slightest - only the retailers. In fact, this Wal-Mart sale is going to help the smaller publishers, at least in my case, because I'm a tool and will probably spend the money I saved on More Stuff.

The only way this would kill local gaming stores is if it was a continuous process, not a one-time sale. Will they keep offering large-ticket gaming items at almost half off? Probably not. I think Walmart is going to see a huge pre-order on the books, and maybe a small core of continued clientele, but for the most part, people like me are going to go back to their regular stores, for all the reasons mentioned in the other thread(s).
