Just wondering

one rule right off the top(edit) of my head... the bonus HPs for both PCs and Monsters. there are more but i'm not going to do a page by page comparison.

thats not really significant...

the only real major difference is the quirks and flaws table. everything else is minor, adaptation of common "house rules" into actual rules. if you play monopoly with the unofficial rule of gaining money when you land on free parking, your still playing monopoly. in fact so many people play with that rule that they think it IS an actual monopoly rule, so in essence, the rules between 2e and hackmaster are merely cosmetic as opposed to the difference between 3e and 2e.

20 hps isn't significant at lvl 1 ???

in my day 0 hp = dead.

young whippersnappers don't know how easy they have it.

when you rolled d6 for hps for all classes. and when 0 hp = dead. you could lose a PC without even trying.

20 hit points is a HUGE difference. Magic missile is no longer the first spell to grab up. 1d4+1, usually a sure kill on a goblin or kobold, will barely cause a hackmaster goblin to break a nail.

we were playing with that as a house rule before hackmaster was ever in print. it allowed us to throw more characters into the meat grinder and really taught us how to play well. furthermore, thats a house rule ive ran into several times since then. the rule is merely cosmetic as the basic system of hackmaster is still not very different than 2e AD&D. and anyhow, hackmaster monsters are fully interchangeable with AD&D. my point remains valid and it wasnt the original point anyway. i just wanted to know if hackmaster was a game that had caught on anywhere else

I am currently playing in my friend's C&C game and he is using some of the Hackmaster adventures. I love the artwork.

As for playing Hackmaster, I prefer C&C when I am not playing Living Greyhawk.
