Justice League Starcrossed

A Thanagarian invasion kind of screws with the possiblity of Hawkman joining the team.

It's still a possibility. They had Hro Talak, after all. Not Katar Hol. Then again, unless they made him Shayera's brother or something, it ain't happening.

But of course, there's always The Man, himself, Carter Hall (Hey, if the comics can have both Shayera co-existing with Carter Hall and Kendra Saunders, then they can do the same in the cartoon).

The Thanagarians themselves honestly weren't that frightening. The ominous music followed by a pan up to reveal hawkpeople perched on buildings made me laugh. They looked like pigeons.

LMAO! I thought the same thing, too.

J'onn: "I can't read the Thanagarians' minds." Flash: "Then how will we find out their evil plans?" J'onn: "I know, I'll read their minds!" Flash: "Um, I thought you said you couldn't do that?" J'onn: "Give me a break! This is a 3-parter, you know! I said that back in part one! You should get down on your knees and be thankful the writers didn't have me collapse, grabbing my head and screaming, for no apparent reason! Aw, screw it! I'm going to find Luthor's Anti-Superpower Gun. That thing will not only stop the aliens, but disable their weapons and ships, too!"

How was that bad? They were immune to passive scans. That doesn't mean their minds were completely immune to a full-on psychic assault. I imagine reading minds for J'onn is like peeping inside someone's house. Most houses he can see inside just fine. Some, like the Thanagarians, he can't because they keep their curtains drawn. But if he REALLY wanted to look inside, he could always punch out the window pain and crawl inside, but that'd hurt his hand and also damage the house.

To me, it felt like typical ill thought out resolutions that plague the series. You get around not knowing about the invasion by saying that J'onn can't read their minds, then find out what you need to know by having J'onn read their minds. It's the same lazy writing that gives us the electric floors and Luthor's plot gun.

I praised this episode for actually using unique ways to disable the JL. They could have gotten around the finding out the plot if they wanted to, as well. Hell, hack into the computer in one of the attack crafts they just captured or something.

It's like on Futurama, when Frye stopped the giant brain invasion by writing that they left the Earth for no reason.

Notice the different amount of effort he has to go to though, 'tis ssomewhat different than going. To put it slightly more in a D&D format, he usually has detect thoughts active, which the Thanagarians are able to resist, so he has to force his way through by using mindrape or similar.

Also note the state the one he reads is left in, not something you would usually do to one you consider an ally I would think.

Hawkgirl is in the teaser poster for JL Unlimited, so my guess is she'll return to the team in one of the earlier episodes. They'll probably deal with the team's reaction and then she'll redeem herself (in her own eyes mostly, as the team has been saved by her already) and be a full-time leaguer.

And hey, Carter Hall would be a great addition to the team. Just have him be the reincarnation of Shayera's late husbad Katar Hol (I'm making this 'late husband' thing up, but she could have been married, widowed and then betrothed to Hro Talak...). And have them both be reincarnations of Egyptian pharaoh and queen!

Yay continuity! :)

Personally I'd prefer for Carter Hall to appear, but not have anything to do with Shayera, beyond both of them using Nth Metal. They had that in the comics, and apparently it worked out pretty well, with Carter Hall, Katar Hol, Shayera Hol, etc existing in the same universe.

Though I guess we can rule out Kendra Saunders, since they named Shayera Hawkgirl, rather then Hawkwoman. :(

The Martian never had reason to "go deep" in Hawkgirl's mind. Even in that Dr. D episode, when he might have done something of this sort, she recovered before the Martian ever got in. So I think it made sense that he never fingered her as a spy (she could probably say with all sincerity that she was mostly on Earth's side anyway).

Bah! A pox on Hawkman! We got the Girl! We don't need no steenking boy-pigeons! If they had to do it, I'd prefer it to be some Earth guy called Carter Hall who admired Hawkgirl so much he took steps to emulate her. Not quite like the comics, but it keeps the number of Hawkmen under control (as the "Zero Hour" series pointed out, there were getting to be entirely too many of them!).

Yes, but Carter Hall would still need to be the reincarnation of Prince Khufu, a Highlander-style character of sorts.

The whole Zero Hour debacle got fixed by Geoff Johns in the Return of Hawkman saga.

And is Shayera called 'Hawkgirl' in the JL toon? Down here the dubbed version calls her Hawkwoman! And she's a whole lotta that, as GL agrees! :D

Yep, Hawkgirl.

And a Hawkgirl groupie? Pfft. No thanks. I want Hawkman to be Carter Hall, the reincarnation of Prince Khifu, who now in his current life remembers all his past lives. Not some fanboy who just happens to be named Carter Hall.

Whatever the case, I'd love to see the REAL Hawkman on the show. It's about time that the viewing audience get introduced to the utter bad-ass that is Carter Hall.

Rumor has it that JSA members might make appearances in JL Unlimited, so here's hoping to Alan Scott, Jay Garrick, Carter Hall and Ted Grant checking in on their heirs (Wildcat's heir being his boxing apprentice, Bruce Wayne).
