Unpopular opinion, but I agree. He’s fine, but it’s not like everything he touches turns to gold.

He is an excellent dungeon master and a prolific adventure writer, but it really is quantity over quality since the days of 2E.

I think Perkons brings a certain sort of humor or energy to his writing that people either like, or they don't. I like it.

Certainly he is the most accomplished Adventure writer in the history of RPGs, which is admittedly an art format that only began when my dad was 28.

Wouldn't be the first time. Personally, I think Perkins is overrated.

Perkins loves himself some "whimsey". Unfortunately it doesn't always work tonally with what others are doing.

For example, I have a feeling the "spider web skating" goblins in Out of the Abyss, an overall pretty bleak and scary adventure, might be his doing.
