[Kalamar, HackMaster] New GenCon releases

Frilf
Did any particular part jump out as being good, or was it the tone of the entire book?

What did you think of the AntiFeats section (that one we heard so much about before)?

Thanks

Orclicker,

I liked the whole overall tone and production value of the book (at $25.00, it's one of the best values out there - esp. for a hardback!). I plan to sit down tonight and read through it more thoroughly (just getting my "land legs" again after Gen Con!) :)

And when I got my copy, the fine folks at Kenzer said it had just arrived (as in minutes before) at the Con. Since then, I have spent a lot of time at my "day job" and haven't had enough opportunity to give it a thorough reading.

I'll post here again tomorrow with my impressions of the "Anti-feats".

Okay! I've gotten a chance to read through the book more thoroughly now (still only about half-done). There is so much good stuff in this thing that I had a hard time moving past the "flavor text" - and no, I don't work for Kenzer :)

Anyway, the anti-feats are interesting. You can get one each level (they're determined randomly with a 1d1000 - yes, that's a die *one thousand*), which apply certain penalties based on the normal feats - and feats from various sources are included (and marked!), like FRCS, T&B, S&F, DoF, Dragon, and many others. If it's from a WotC source, there's probably an anti-feat for it. Having two anti-feats enables you to take another "regular" feat immediately. So, by taking an anti-feat at first and second level, you gain an additional second-level feat (or so I understand). However, the penalties can be rather stiff. I'd say they're better suited for NPCs (in this case, villains), although PCs can take their chances if they like. Cool stuff, overall I'd say.

Cheers!

Orclicker,

Sorry! Must have dozed off there for a few days! Anyhoo, I have been so busy at work and with other "extra-curricular" activities that I haven't read anything else yet. Sorry about all that!

Cheers!
Ian
