Keep on the Borderlands - Some Questions

Wik

First Post
A few hours ago, I started perusing my old copy of B2 - The Keep on the Borderlands, and generally chuckling with delight at some of the details (and lack of details in other areas). And really loving the Owlbear cave. My dad originally used this module, way back when (as in, probably before I was born, or maybe a year or two after?) and I can see all sorts of notes in the margins and on the map, which is kind of cool.

However, he must have removed the AREA map, because it is nowhere in my copy - I didn't even realize it existed, until I started reading a few pages of the text. I've never even seen this map, which makes me wonder if other things from my copy are missing (I have run this adventure before, but it's been so long that I don't remember the details - we're talking around 1993 or so - I was 10).

So, what's on the AREA map? Anyone know a (legal) place it's posted at? Or should I just cave and buy another used copy at the used bookstore? (They have a copy for around five bucks, so I'm not worried about cost or anything)

Also, if one were to run an 8 hour one-shot session on, say, a sunday, how much of the module would get covered, do you think? It's been a while since I've played BECMI, and I'm just a little curious about pacing.

just thinking about this off the top of my head i believe the area map was part of the "centerfold" which included a map of the keep on one side and a map of the woods, river/lizards lair, hermits location, and markers for B1 and the Caves of Chaos.

That map only looks vaguely like the original. The watchtower? That wasn't in the original. Where's the hermit's lair?

Fellgrim Forest? The Baleful Bogs? The Cursed Mound? These names aren't in the original.

I did a quick Google image search "Keep on the Borderlands map" and found what you're looking for.

That would be cool to see, especially since it was your dads notes. Do you see any notes on there that says, "Think of something cool to say to the new hot chick in the group"? That would be even cooler  especially if the hot chick wasn't your mom :p

It seems really interesting to me to have a parent that also plays D&D. That just seems like a really good experience and I'd like to think that I would one day play D&D with my kids...only so I can destroy their precious PCs and remind them who the king of the castle is! j/k :D

Most of the notes on the map seem to be keyed encounters - things like "A13" or the like. I have no idea what that means. And there are a lot of HP tracking throughout the margins - showing how the monsters' HP has depleted. It looks like it took a while for the Owlbear to die! A lot of stuff is also circled, underlined, and all that fun stuff.

And yeah, my dad used to be a pretty big D&D geek. He's the guy that got me started, for sure. I have a feeling he'd be a RBDM. ;)

Oh, and thanks all for the google recommendations - I probably should have checked that before asking, but sometimes you have a mind blank.
