I was curious if someone already has and….
Thanks!

However, that is a different game. AiME (Adventures in Middle Earth) is the older 5E adaptation of The One Ring (1st Ed). LotR5E (Lord of the Rings 5E) is the newer adaptation of The One Ring (2nd Ed). Similar games, but different enough this cheat sheet won't work well for the newer game.

We just finished our first adventure with Lord of the Rings 5E (it was interrupted by school holidays and some other games). Overall, it was a good experience. The guys who were way into Tolkien loved it, unsurprisingly. Everyone else found it enjoyable. Some random thoughts:
  • The poor implementation of LOTR 5E on D&D Beyond was a headache and made the sessions harder than they should have been.
  • The characters felt vulnerable in a way that D&D characters don't, even at low levels. The players felt this as well, and found it elevated the stakes.
  • The sample adventure, Star of the Mist, seems like an adequate introduction, though far from brilliant.
  • Middle Earth is a pretty grim and dangerous place. Outside of the shire and a couple of other places, it all feels pretty dangerous and oppressive.
  • The players all really liked the Shadow Points, as they were thematic and really added some stakes to their behavior. They made an oath to someone called Veiko the Venerable to return a blue gem to her. Making the oath felt like a very heavy thing to do, because they knew that breaking it would carry serious consequences.
  • We are going back to our regular D&D campaign now, but folks are definitely keen to visit Middle Earth again.

I had to piece the layout together from the narrative text, and ended up getting some stuff confused. Actually, the same thing happened on the journey map too.
That's . . . exactly what happened when I read LotR. There was the big Middle Earth map, but not a smaller one for Fangorn or the Riddermark. So I'd say the game is right on the money.
