Keep on the Shadowfell review (Spoilers)

Well I'm assuming Crothian is fair and balanced so I figured I'd mention that the Paizo reviews are in line with his assessment, biased or not.

But 3/5 isn't below average :) It is either 'exactly average' in the sense of being the middle option of the range, or 60% if you optimistically turn it into %ages :)

You did say they were in line, but then you said they were mostly below average, ie not in line.

Read the paizo reviews. It doesn't take more than 5 minutes. You will see they tend to say the same things as Crothian. 2/5 or 3/5 seem pretty similar scores to me.

The result seems to be 'damned by faint praise'. With the module touted as 'not bad' but not worth $30. (not that anyone pays retail these days).

I bought it right away before reviews, but with that said, I would have bought it regardless. I collect these things, and would have felt odd not getting it. Call it a fault of mine, but I guess companies like wizards love people like me - mindlessly buying up their products.

I definitely agree about the poor quality of the materials. The covers (of each booklet) smudge really easily and it's only a (short) matter of time before it gets pretty wrecked (and I take good care of these things).

My group and I ran through combat using the pre-gen characters and the mobs inside. We didn't actually run the adventure properly, it was simply a combat test, feel-out-the-characters kinda thing. I really enjoyed the healing surges, using reach (with a lance) and minions... lots of minions, and a few other things. We enjoyed this a lot and will do more of it on another weekend between now and June 6.

I have been skeptical of 4e - trying to reserve judgment at least until this module came out, but as the last few weeks have passed (and with the release of the excerpts, etc) I have gotten more excited. At this point my group and I are very excited to get started on a new campaign, so the new edition has done something right for us so far.

No matter what, they would have sold me on the new edition. As I said before, I tend to gobble up anything labeled D&D so they had me from age 12 (fyi 19 years flies by really really fast), but I didn't anticipate me or my group would be so ready to dive right in. We never really had any serious issues with 3rd edition, and won't even after 4e has come in full I would imagine, but there is something here with this new edition that's got us hooked in.

My advice to anyone thinking about getting it would be to simply hold off, unless you are like me and buy this stuff up regardless, in which case you may need to save some money and get a bigger bookshelf as well...

I did :/

Clark Peterson (Orcus) comments on KotS in this thread. As most of you know, he's very enthusiastic about 4E, but he wasn't impressed. I think the most damning thing he said was "don't judge 4E by this adventure."

I haven't seen the product at all, but the impression I get is that WotC missed an opportunity, on this one.
