Kenzer: A Kalamar SRD?

Having read the reviews of the Kalamar PHB on the main board (It must be mine!), I have to ask -- are there ANY plans to release a "Kalamar SRD", which would include only the 'crunchy bits'? (I am *not* asking for the massive IP which is Kalamar to be opened, anymore than I'd expect Forgotten Realms to be -- just the crunchy bits that don't have too much setting clinging to them.)

If not...well, hey, it's your property. You don't "owe" it to anyone. It *would* be nifty, though.

Presumably if they had wanted to do that, they would have simply made the relevent bits (like classes and feats and such) open. Or they wouldn't have bothered with getting a D&D license from WOTC, they would simplly have just used the d20 license.

(IMHO, it's a shame, since their Kalamar stuff is top notch)

Still, given that you can't copyright rules, you could likely just borrow the crunchy parts and just change all the names/text.

Hi I am a freelance writer for Kenzer, and I have not heard of any plans to open the material to the SRD. This doesn't mean that someone isn't thinking about it just that I haven't heard plans to do so.

As for the idea of just releasing the material as OGC, Kenzer had an agreement to license their products before the d20 SRD/OGC concept was announced. And as for the idea that rules can't be copywritten, this is a legal conundrum as I don't know of anyone who has taken this to court yet so we can't know how the laws will be interpreted for RPGs, and I surely wouldn't want to be the one who finds out the hard way.

I'm well aware of this. This means they don't *have* to use the STL/OGL. I am not sure if it means, or does not mean, that they *can't*. It's their choice, and, of course, the right to release non-open material and use the "Dungeons&Dragons" name and logo is part of what they paid for, so, I can see their side of it...

Well, Kenzer has paid the right to use the D&D logo. They also have the right, as everyone else, to use the d20 logo. They aren't forced to use any, and they could use both if they want in the same time.

It would be a good idea, I think; but the decision is theirs and they may very well think otherwise.

I haven't looked at our agreement in a long time, but I think WOTC would be the ones to do this, not K&C.

Dave

You mean WotC has the right to take some of your stuff and put it in the SRD ?
