Kenzer's new Hackmaster Greyhawk and the revised Core Books

Almost forgot. When Kenzer finishes Greyhack, if you want it for 3e, it shouldn't be hard to convert to d20. It's really just 1e rules with an honor system and the greatest crit table ever made.

My guess is that the revised 3E core rulebooks will have the Forgotten Realms as their default setting. After all, Greyhawk doesn't make nearly as much money for WOTC as Forgotten Realms does.

I'musingmy old copy of "into the Unknown" and the Hackmaster "Quest for the Unknown" to start off a campaign for my wife and daughter. The Kenzer addition to the module were to flesh out the weird things in the original, like giving more background to the mistress and what happened to her and some other people at the stronghold. It is cool and well-done.

I expect the Greyhawk work to be similarly well-done. I'll be very interested if EGG is involved.

If they're going to convert Greyhawk to Hackmaster, then leave the campaign-specific crap out of the core books for d20. If I wanted FR, I'd buy FR. I don't need that garbage in my non-FR books, much less the core stuff.

Rumor on the Kenzer Boards is that they have poicked up the lisence for GH, and that GG himself may work on it.

As far as I remember, Kenzer has the license to ALL of the products that were published for AD&D. So they have the rights to redo any of the 1st or 2nd edition GH products as HM stuff. Hell, they could also do Mystara, Forgotten Realms, Planescape, or Birthright as HM.

As for the revised rulebooks, most of what I've heard would lead me to believe that WotC is going to cut out the Greyhawk bits, essentially making it a $90 copy of the SRD.

Have you got a source on that, beyond net rumors? I've heard nothing to suggest that WotC is changing anything but some mechanics. This is the first time I've ever even heard of the concept that they might change the default setting. Frankly, doing so wouldn't make any sense, since people who want FR have already bought (or will buy) FR, and such a move would just PO those who don't like FR.

More to the point, though, it's extra work with no obvious gain.

This is actually incorrect. When KenzerCo secured the rights for the 1e/2e engine, they got certain things to go along with it. Old modules and names of NPCs (Mordenkeinen, Robilar and the rest of the gallery). They expressly cannot use the name Greyhawk and this license does not extend to other settings such as the Forgotten Realms.

No source beyond net rumors, but it makes sense.

People are stupid. The individual persons that comprise a given group of people may be genii, but humanity tends to lose the ability to think when encountered in numbers greater than 1. All WotC has to do is hold their new books high aloft and proclaim "Behold!! Crunchy Bits!!" The flock of loyal 3e sheep will shell out their money for a settingless set of rulebooks that differ from the original by a few obscure lines of text.

And I will sit back and laugh at all of you.

It wasn't flame bait. It was an honest prediction. That's my personal opinion based on my views of humanity in general (I'm not targeting ENWorlders) and WotC in particular.
