1,400 light years away. Long way!

If there were intelligent life there, they wouldn't know about us. It would take our signals 1,400 years to reach then, and we certainly didn't send out any radio signals in 600 AD.

So if that star is the same temperature as the Sun, and this planet is a it further away, presumably it would be a little colder. Then again, that doesn't count heat retentive properties of atmospheres and the like.

Dang, it's a shame we can't send something there to check it out.

I caught the tail end of the live press conference. The planet is slightly larger than Earth, orbiting in roughly 380 days. The sun is a little hotter than ours which, along with the slightly larger orbit puts it in the habitable range, where you could presume to find liquid water. Of course they can't tell us anything about the make-up of the planet, because this information comes from watching transits, but it's promising. Maybe we could convince Evil Superman to take them over instead?

You are definitely correct that they wouldn't know of us from our signals, but if they are as technologically advanced as we are, they may have discovered that our world may be enough like theirs to support intelligent life. If they are an older civilization than we are, they may have made this discovery decades or centuries ago and sent a probe slowly on its way to check us out.
