i believe that some maneuvres of the sublime way from the tome of battle is powered by the character's ki, although, i'm none too sure on that. kinda just recall reading it somewhere in the book.

I'm not sure what you mean by "extensively detailed."

"Ki" is used as a bit of flavor within the crunch of various abilities used by monks, ninjas, etc. It doesn't have a particular crunch effect unto itself - "ki strike" would work just the same if you called it "magic strike," for instance, and let you overcome various kinds of damage reduction.

There are no rules that I know of regarding ki as an actual mechanic, rather than window dressing on some mechanics.

Ki is "Chi" (just an alternate spelling.) It is an eastern (Taosist?) concept which represents a kind of basic metaphysical force or energy. Think of it as life energy or personal power. (People have Chi, but so may objects or places.) Mystics and martial artists are thought to cultivate and project this power to acheive extraordinary or even supernatural effects. It is also the basis of traditional Chinese medicine.

I am, as a long and probably unrewarding bit of homebrewing, folding "Ki" into the Magic of Incarnum rules.

Its actually looking pretty good, overall, but it IS tedious work.

Small world, I'm doing that too. My version of Incarnate and Totemist gain some monk-like abilities.

I guess I'm going the opposite route- I'm not changing the MoI classes, I'm doing Incarnum variants of Ki classes.
