I've created a rough outline for the campaign:
1. Book One. The Caverns of Anamosa. The party begins exploring a dungeon that was once the redoubt of a famous pair of adventurers, known for defeating a barbarian invasion decades past and retiring in seclusion. They have not been heard of in years, and rumors reach civilization that they recently traveled to the lands of the barbarians and have not been heard of since. Levels 1-3.
2. Book Two. To the Northern Reaches. While exploring the dungeon the adventurers find clues that the barbarians are raising another army to invade the lowlands, and the two heroes traveled north to the Forbidden Hochtal, a high-altitude valley, with a small force to try and stop them again. This was five years ago, and they have not returned. The party begins to travel north, following their trail, and eventually find and ascend the Scarred Pass. Levels 4-6.
3. Book Three. The Forbidden Hochtal. The adventurers reach the Forbidden Hochtal and begin exploring, eventually finding the remains of the failed expedition, including the keys needed to access some areas of the original dungeon that were inaccessible to them, and clues that items within may be needed to defeat the barbarians. They encounter various factions amongst the barbarians, and learn the jarl is close to unifying enough of the clans to mount an assault through the pass. Levels 7-8.
4. Book Four. Return to the Caverns of Anamosa. The adventurers leave the Forbidden Hochtal and return to the Caverns, delving into the areas that had previously been inaccessible and finding important information, including the location of an artifact important to the clans currently held by a dragon (see Rorndrarg, above). Levels 9-10.
5. Book Five. Raise the Banners of War. The adventurers raise an army among the folk of the moorlands and lead it north, back through the Scarred Pass. Levels 11-12.
6. Book Six. Let Loose the Dogs of War. The adventurers travel through the hochtal, making allies and fighting pitched battles along the way, until they confront the Jarl in the Fortress of the Ancestors, her redoubt at the far end of the valley. Levels 13-14.
My goal with the later levels was to incorporate some mass combat/domain-style play into the campaign so it's not all just high-level dungeon crawling.
