Killing wizards! (Split from: I hate game balance!)

It's true that, in 4th Edition, a high-level Wizard isn't really orders of magnitude more dangerous than a fighter. But that's only true of the Wizard class as it's written. . .

Good point.

If no PC is going to be a Wizard, there's no reason not to say that, in your campaign world, all wizards aren't level 22 solo controllers who can rain fire down from the skies for miles around.

The thing is, I'd like not to close of Wizard as a PC class option.

I think that's a cool idea. It does have shadows of a supers "mutant control act" game, a la the X-Men/Sentinels/dark future plot arc. (Proper name: Nightmares of Future Past?) ANd that's good for me. :D

Isn't there a thread somewhere here on Enworld where someone has outlined a campaign that basically does this? The PCs are basically inquistion style witch hunters with lots of (non-magical) gimmicks? It looked pretty cool.

Interestingly enough a friend of mine had an old campaign he used to run in an older group he played in during the 2E days and was about to start us on, but decided to wait a few more weeks to launch. He started about 2 weeks after 3E was released and we played for a couple of months before he moved. Magic was outlawed (except clerical magic) and of course I played a Wizard ;) Our Paladin was very low Int and I came up w/excuses for the effects of my spells or he would make them up on his own.

"Stand up and fight me like men! It's a lack of discipline that you possess!"

Casting magic behind his back and having some of our victories come about strictly b/c of my magic use was very funny. Never did get too much into the political angle you mention, just wanted to share ;)
