[Kinda OT] ARRGH! I hate moving!

I'm about to move this summer, as soon as I find a new house. Of course, this time it's all on my timetable, and it's something I really want (a bigger house, please!), so I've got no complaints.

I've lived in this house for 4 yrs, and the one before that for almost 2. And all told I've lived in 27 houses (and 2 vehicles) in my 33 years. :D

The only non-painful move I've been through was the most recent one (from Rochester, NY to San Diego, CA). And that was only because I was absolutely brutal about throwing stuff out, giving stuff away, and otherwise not moving it across the country. I had my car shipped, all of my clothes stuffed into the three checked bags and two carry-ons that the airline allowed, and my books, computer, and appliances sent via UPS.

Yeah, I maxed out my credit card furnishing my new apartment, but it was so much easier than trying to move most of that stuff.

Moving sucks.

last move was Brooklyn, NY to near SF, CA god it sucked.

1. I really didn't want to move, I only moved because I was getting lots of Mom only has a few months left signals. It ended being close to 2 years left, yeah for modern medicine. While I love the bay area since I grew up here, NY is where I feel I belong.

2. I lived on the 4th floor walkup, after about 1 hour of packing I was so freakin tired I just left the rest of my stuff in my apartment.

Next move is some time in the future, that future being either when I save up enough to survive a few months in NY area, or I find a job cross country in the NY area. As soon as either of those happen I'm gone and I'll love the move, no matter how much packing is involved.(no walk up this time :D )

Moving is always a pain for me, both litterally and figuratively speaking. At last count I was up to move 7 in 8 years. Each time I move the amount of boxes, furniture and various appliances seem to increase magically. :(

Anyway, this year, after being in different cities for the past three years, my wife is moving back with me. Ah the joys of graduate studies...

However, I live in Quebec. It is the only place I know of where of all the moving being done in a year almost 90% of it is done in and around the National Holiday of July 1st. That means that around 250,000 households will be moving in the next two weeks. Almost all leases in Quebec end on June 30th. What a pain. Just try to rent a truck in the next few days over here !

I understand and I feel your pain.

Good luck. Now got to get back to packing those books...

It's not that bad. I actually moved 6 months ago, and at first I thought I had to find a new group, and get settled in, but that is not it at all.

I remembered I had a friend in the Bay area, and he hooked me up. Four months later, another guy from our old group moved up. So, except for some new additions, the old group moved to a new location.

And the hobby stores here are much better

I'm in the midst of a move right now. All of my goods are in storage, I'm living in a hotel with my wife and two teenaged boys, and we can't get into our new house for another week.

Still, it's not like we didn't know we'd be getting into this when I joined the military...
