King Kong or Godzilla sized foes

caudor

Adventurer
I've been thinking about this for a while. When my players reach high level this time around, I bet they will expect me to setup another Demon or Devil as their foe.

What I'd actually like to do is unleash a Gargantuan creature on them or make it necessary for them to hunt down one on some remote island.

I'm pretty sure the names Godzilla or Kong haven't been used in any monster manuals since the rights to those names are probably owned by someone, but does anyone know a publication were I can find such huge beast like them? A friend mentioned that Kara Tur might have dealt with such large creatures but I didn't find anything.

I really just want to get some stats. Is this something I might find if I buy the Epic Level Handbook?

If necessary, I'll make my own version the beast. I'm just feeling around for some existing work that might help.

(By the way, anyone want to guess at what the actual CR of Godzilla or King Kong might be? Would they stand up against an ancient Red Dragon?)

Dragon 289, I believe, has an article called "Thunder & Fire," and has rules for creating kaiju, the colossal city-wrecking monsters that move like people in heavy rubber suits.

That sounds exactly what I'm looking for. Thank you!

I will have to second Kaiju template...plus i think the MM2 has the gargantuan creature template

Titanic. It takes an Animal or Vermin of up to Medium size, and turns it Gargantuan.

But the poor thing still thinks it's a Tiny creature, or whatever, and gets horribly confused.

You might also like to have a look at one of EGG's 1E modules, WG6 Isle of the Ape, which was basically a fantasy variation of the King Kong story. I would also have a look at X2, Isle of Dread, for some island adventure ideas.

Ah, I just found and dug out my Dragon#289...the Oriental Adventures issue it is. The answer was with me all this time  My closet caved in on me but it was worth it (made my reflex save).

The templates adds +15 to the CR and other powers, so what we end up with here is one bad-mama-jama.

I also see that my players will need even more levels than I thought before they tangle with one of these beasts. But one of these days... :D

Thanks again for the replies!

No problem Caudor. Just remember if you need a good mecha though, Mithril Golem in CC Revised makes an excellent Mecha. ;)

Haven't seen the templates, but here are some off-the-cuff ideas:

More hit dice (of course).
The appropriate Gargantuan size modifiers.
Much higher Str and Con, but not Dex (or other attributes).
A significant bonus to Will saves (make up a rationalization later).
Damage reduction is a must--those ordinary toothpick swords won't whittle it down--they're mosquito bites.
