Kithari - Catman

Just wanted some feedback on a new race I am making. I am thinking of playing this in an upcoming game and wanted to make sure it seemed balanced with other races and get feedback on modifications or other catmen ideas out there.

Kithari
+2 Dex
-2 Wis
+4 Racial Bonus to Balance Checks
+2 Racial Bonus to Jump Checks
+2 Racial Bonus to Move Silent Checks
+2 Racial Bonus to Initiative

Idea is that they are a quick and agile race.

Sometimes quick and agile races, something like feline humanoid tends to be a little weaker too. You should consider also the idea of unarmed attack feat for free, because they use naturally their claws.

So keep your stats, but think to add also

-1 to strenght

unarmed attack (claws) for free: dealing 1d6+1 damage (if they're medium creatures).

What about their physical description, society and etc etc?

If you have access to Mystic Races, you might want to take a look. There is a great race of felines in there. THere are many subtypes of most of the greater cats in there.

If you go:

+6 dex
-2 wis
-2 str

You still have a balance in physical stats and you can remove the +2 to initiative.

YOu still could have the skill bonuses and give them unarmed strike (claws?) for free.

That makes a pretty powerful race, you might want to throw in a charisma penalty (I hate cats) or something to balance it out.

HOw about a fear of water or an inability to use water magic or something?

Okay, racial write up

Kithari are a cat humaniod hybrid. Most are very quick but flighty. They stand about 5 feet tall, have a variety of fur color (though gray and black are the most common), and have a tail. The Kithari frame is small and light, rarely do they weigh more then a 100 pounds, most commonly they weigh between 50 and 75. Kithari males naturally live between 45 and 55 years of age while females live 55 to 65 years. Kithari young reach adult hood in at 2 years of age.

Kithari are a nomadic people very distrustful of outsiders (especially humans). As a result, most other races do not know their true racial name, instead outsiders call them catmen. Likewise, it is very rare that an outsider ever learns the true name of an individual Kithari. They live in a pride group, with a dominate male, younger males, and several females. When a younger male reaches becomes an adult, he must either leave the pride or drive away the dominate male.

There are many more Kithari females then males. As a result, a male may (and almost always does) take several mates in his lifetime. However, all the females, by custom, belong to the dominate male of the pride and he has final say over the fate of Kithari women.

Have you ever posted this somewhere else?

If you havn't, I've seen almost the exact same idea, but with claw attacks, somewhere else on the net.

Major cse of deja vu when i read this thread...:D

Since Cats can hear and smell better than we can, why do they recieve a penalty to the ability that represents the senses. A bonus to Wisdom would, to me, make far more sense. I understand that a penalty to Con would make them too much like elves and a penalty to Int would suggest unintelligence, but a penalty to Wisdom is not the solution.

But wisdom is also the "level-headed stat" I think he is going for a curoisity killed the cat ethic? Maybe a +1 to spot/listen if it's a problem, although I don't really see it as much of one.

Cats don't strike me as the world's most intelligent creatures (although they make me sneaze and I don't make them sneaze hmmmm)

I think replacing the wisdom modifier with intelligence is a good idea.
