There's the Bridle magic item in the AV I believe that summons a horse for 8 hours, I had a very grateful farmstead give each of my players one in return for repelling an orc attack that would have killed them all. And because real horses always end up dead, lost or something's lunch, at something like 800 gold each it was worth it to me as a DM to give them something like that and a cool thing for them to have.
