Knocking out Spell Resistance.

I might be an idiot, Mistwell...but how does Heighten Spell help you get through spell resistance?

No, I'm the one that messed up. Heighten Spell only has SRP when combined with Earth Spell from Races of Stone (and if you ever go with that combo, I suggest you wear oversized boots stuffed with dirt).

As long as you are standing on stone or unworked earth (including normal soil), you can use the Heighten Spell feat to added effect. If you cast a spell using a spell slot one level higher than the spell's actual level, the spell is treated as a spell two levels higher and your effective caster level is increased by one. If you use a spell slot two levels higher, the spell is treated as three levels higher and your effective caster level is increased by two, and so on."

Basically, divine casters are better at overcoming SR than arcane casters, because they have more efficient ways to increase their caster level. Strand of Prayer Beads (Karma) is no brainer. Divine Spell power (from Complete Divine) is another big boon. Hierophant prestige class is another one. Also, there are various magic items which add +1 to caster level.

I'm still wondering why using spells that don't offer a spell resistance check isn't an option for your group. Why NOT use an Orb of Acid (Complete Arcane)?

arcane mastery from compleat arcane works well you can get through the spell resistence by roleing a 10. If you can do this, you can get through spell resistence every time.

There's a rather limited selection, and they're pretty cheesy?

There are other means to hamper or disable a creature. Now, I don't know the specifics of a fallen angel, but battle-field control spells like the various walls can help. As can summoned creatures. Several damage dealing conjuration spells don't allow SR like the various orb spells and Arc of Lightning etc.

No, you cannot. It just lets you take 10. So, for example, at 10th level you have a 20. This is NOT sufficient to get through a lot of creatures spell resistance. You would often need more than that.
