Kobold Magic Needed

I've started work on a book (to be self published in PDF) on kobolds. To get an idea of my take on the beasties check out my blog at Mythusmage Opines (scroll down for the entries, and beware of politics).

Since I do tend to go on at length (in case you handn't noticed ;) ) I find myself in need of a few ideas re what to add in the way of OGC material. To keep the OGC content at the required minimum of 5% of the total, I figure a few spells and other bits of kobold magic would help. Which is why I'm posting this.

But, not just adventuring magic, daily life magic. The kind of magic you'd expect kobolds to use day to day. While nowhere near complete, the currently available postings should give you some idea of what Dragon Earth kobolds are like, and thus idas of appropriate kobold spells.

Yes, you will receive credit, and a contributor's copy if the beast actually does get published. If you send in multiple contributions your friends will get free downloads too.

So post those spells and magic items.

If you don't already know about it, there is a group of people that are also working on a kobold PDF project, and work is well advanced (including drawings). It's just that the project has gone slower lately. Maybe you would find interesting to contact them and know in what way you could collaborate? To get to them see community3e and then contact the webmaster.

Tried emailing the webmaster. "User unknown".
Well, you can maybe try to join the yahoogroup where all those involved (myself included) in this kobold project are: c3epresents
If you don't reach it, I may try to see what I can do.

I don't belong to the team devoted to kobolds (I was supposed to help on the one devoted to goblinoids, which unfortuanetly died out. However, the work on kobolds already has much stuff done. It's just that like so many d20 projects it has now gone into slumber. It's probably time that someone brings fresh ideas, plus the incentive of finishing this project.

Why can't there be two PDF projects relating to kobolds?

In any case, what I'd suggest for the original poster is that in a kobold's world, everyday magic is probably pretty close to adventuring magic, as kobolds are weaker than, well, everyone, are every villains' favorite race to enslave, and every hero's training academy.

Spells relating to traps, making them work better and harder to detect, as well as hiding their nest entirely, is probably something they'd invest a lot of energy in. Barring that, I'd go with some flavor stuff about eggs (maybe they have a high level spell that makes eggs hatch half-dragon kobolds instead of just the ordinary kind ... a race that idolizes dragons wouldn't object to that as a whole) or weasels.

Turanil: I'm having trouble with Yahoo.com right now. Some crap about being an "invalid user". And the folks at Yahoo.com are singularly difficult to get in touch with.

Whiz: My kobolds are placental mammals. Which means no eggs. That aside, you do present good advice.

Of course ,you could call their living arrangement "nests". The kobolds of Dragon Earth live in troops. These troops are most often housed in a communal living arrangement. A common living area (and by living I include socializing, sleeping, bathing), a kitchen, and a lavatory. Plus a multi-car garage. Kobolds love their wheels. Social animals, kobolds hate being alone.

As to dragons, Dragon Earth kobolds treat them with great respect. (Dragons find kobolds endlessly fascinating. Then again, Dragon Earth dragons find Dragon Earth sophonts et al endlessly fascinating. (Dragon Earth dragons are a bunch of nosy parkers, if you ask me.))

During a black, cold winter night
A Kobold swore an oath to an evil outsider.
Over the treetops of the forest shined a light
and around the flames jumped the small being.
With distorted expression he shout, horror!
verses of dark sorcery.

"A alla goya! Ho! Hopi Ayata!
Al heya goya! Hoi! Goi! Ayata!"

Nine scared children looked at him
The incantation they heard and remembered
Thus they ran away, so fast it they escaped
They wanted to try out the sorcerous song.
Hand in hand, they stood in circles
and caught on to sing, first loud and then quietly.

"A alla goya! Ho! Hopi Ayata!
Al heya goya! Hoi! Goi! Ayata!"

The verses were written on a cold wall
Torn open by clawed hands.
When men wandered there, they never went out.
Piece by piece, the earth began to tremble,
The foul sorcery extinguising all life on Earth

"A alla goya! Ho! Hopi Ayata!
Al heya goya! Hoi! Goi! Ayata!"

Very poorly translatten from the German.

Glockenrequiem, by Letzte Instanz. I love that song. Hey, I'm on-topic, it's about kobolds and their magic! And how we would get away with it if there weren't meddlesome kids... :)

Well, send me a mail and a few words about your being interested, and I will forward it to the yahoo list.

I can send in a subscription request, but the moderator can't mail me back. Apparently I'm some sort of "invalid user". Thanks for your help though.
