Kobolds of dragons and older house rules threads

I found this old thread from a while ago and instead of bringing it back in full I decided to take the major ending bits of it.
This thread is on Kobolds, and has many interesting ideas in it.

This was the last kobold statistic block to be posted. I will include, in the next post, the earlier ones wich incorperated draconic heritage.

KOBOLD CHARACTERS
Kobold characters possess the following racial traits:



  • –2 Strength, +2 Dexterity, -2 Constitution, +2 Charisma.
  • Small size: +1 bonus to Armor Class, +1 bonus on attack rolls, +4 bonus on Hide checks, –4 penalty on grapple checks, lifting and carrying limits 3/4 those of Medium characters.
  • A kobold’s base land speed is 30'.
  • Darkvision 60' (and associated Light Sensitivity: dazzled in sunlight or magic that duplicates bright light, like the Daylight spell)
  • Racial Skills: A kobold character has a +2 racial bonus on Craft (trapmaking), Profession (miner), Search, and Sense Motive checks.

  • Spell-Like Abilities: 1/day—mending, message. Caster level 1st; save DC 10 + kobold’s Cha modifier + spell level.
  • Weapon Familiarity: Kobolds treat repeating crossbows as martial weapons, rather than exotic ones.
  • Automatic Languages: Draconic. Bonus Languages: Common, Undercommon.
  • Favored Class: Sorcerer.
  • Level Adjustment +0
While I like the balancing here, I think the charisma bonus is a bit much an I would do with out. And without it, their attributes look like that of small elves. I like the spell like abilities much, as I would have them closer to dragons. I would give them proficiency in light picks and heavy picks. Back to the attributes, leave the -4 str. This is what makes them unique. The picture in 3.5 is of a small wirly thin draconic-dog humanoid. I think their +1 nat armor makes up for the loss of strength. I would also drop sense motive.

Choose a type of dragon. You gain Energy Resistance 5 in the element dealing with them. Your scales are also the color of that dragon.

This is the revised kobold of draconic heritage by nifft. Includes a racial character class.

Special Abilities:

  • Energy Resistance 10 (Ex): This replaces (does not stack with) the racial energy resistance that the Kobold chose at character creation. His scales become more vibrant in color.
  • Natural Armor (Ex): The specified value replaces the Kobold's racial Nagural Armor bonus.
  • Elemental Spell Power (Su): When casting spells with the energy descriptor that matches the Kobold's energy resistance, the character's Caster Level gains the indicated bonus.
  • Draconic Ability: The Kobold gains one ability based on its scale color as follows:

    - Red: Extra +1 Natural Armor bonus (Ex)

    - Green, Black: Water Breathing (Ex)

    - Blue: Create Water (Sp): 3/day, caster level = character level

    - White: Icewalking (Ex)
  • Breath Weapon (Su): The Kobold may use this special attack up to 4/day as a standard action once every minute. The DC is 10 + 1/2 the Kobold's character level + Con bonus, and the breath weapon deals 4d8 damage in the type & shape indicated:

    - Red: 15 ft. cone of Fire

    - Green: 15 ft. cone of Acid gas

    - Blue: 30 ft. line of Electricity

    - Black: 30 ft. line of Acid

    - White: 15 ft. cone of Cold
